Biography
Graduated from the Faculty of Physics, Moscow State University, Russia (Chair of Biophysics). Completed Ph.D in biophysics at Moscow State University, Russia. Worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Molecular and Cell Biology Department, University of Connecticut and at the Institute for Computational Biomedicine, Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, USA. Currently Maria Poptsova is Associate Professor and head of the lab of bioinformatics at the Faculty of Computer Science, Big Data and Information Retrieval School, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia and Bioinformatics group leader at the Faculty of Physics (Chair of Biophysics), Moscow State University, Russia. Editor of the book “Genome Analysis: Current Procedures and Applicationsâ€, Caister Academic Press, 2014.
Research Interest
Research areas include development of computer program and algorithms for genome analysis and applications of machine-learning methods to Big Data of molecular biology. Main research focus is DNA secondary structures, yet uncharacterized layer of genome annotation, and their role in genome functioning
