Biography
Diego Omar Serra is originally from Argentina, where he earned a Licentiate degree in biotechnology from The National University of Litoral and a Doctorate in microbiology from The National University of La Plata. In 2011, he joined Dr. Regine Hengge’s research group at the Free University of Berlin (Germany) as postdoctoral researcher under sponsorship of an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship. Currently, he is a Research Assistant associated to Dr. Regine Hengge’s group at the Humboldt University of Berlin. His research is focused on uncovering the molecular mechanisms by which Escherichia coli forms architecturally complex biofilms, with emphasis on understanding the role of extracellular matrix components as biofilm building materials.
Research Interest
He is interested in understanding how E. coli self-organizes into architecturally complex communities.
